On the second day (Monday the 13th) we had an early departure with the children for the Crossing Hills and a visit to the wonderful Photography Museum. A meeting with the Mayor followed, where we were warmly welcomed and exchanged gifts. After that, we visited the Cathedral of St. Paul and at noon, we arrived at the school. There was a fine warm welcoming, with traditional dances and presents and every country made its own garland from flowers, as well as its flag. At 14:00 we had lunch in the school’s dining room. It was well-organised and simply delicious. Then, the English teacher showed us around the school building and Mrs Edita gave us a Lithuanian language and History lesson, rather educational! At 17:30, the coordinators’ project meeting took place, where we exchanged gifts, enjoyed a coffee break and were informed about the change of coordinator and members of the Greek team, by our headmistress, Mrs Psyri Maria. Right afterwards, we all watched and participated in traditional singing and dancing, which was fabulous! Then, we tried some very tasty local specialties, offered from parents in the schools’ dining hall. We felt at home, in such a warm and pleasant atmosphere thanks to teachers, students and parents!
On Tuesday, 14th May we had an early departure to Vilnius, Trakai and Kernave, with visits to the palace and castle. A visit to the Cathedral followed, and after that we enjoyed a traditional lunch in a restaurant of terrific cuisine and decoration! We left Trakai, admired the castle and shopped in a flea market. At 18:00 we ate local food in a picturesque restaurant and then in Kernave, we ran and rolled down the hills.
The next day, Wednesday May the 15th, at 10:00 we were warmly welcomed in the school hall with traditional music and each one presented our schools. At the end, we had a quiz and received a bracelet as a present and a stamped mark as a reward next to our name. A certificate award followed at the school entrance by the headmistress. Finally we had coffee with great traditional local delicacies, generously offered by parents – we were spoilt for choice! Right after that, we went to the mill and the museum by bus and a kind lady guided us there in English. Each and every one then made and baked their own loaf of bread – an unforgettable hands-on experience! While awaiting, we tried bread with onion, nuts and cannabis. Then, we were shown around the mill and its surroundings – a small farm with goats, hens and lambs. At 13:30 we tasted different kinds of local chocolate and at 15:00 we lunched and shopped in shopping centre. Then, we walked around the town and saw more landmarks from close up.
